Your Journey

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Make your own way to your gateway airport to board your international flight to Reykjavik. Enjoy in-flight services and meals.
Overnight Onboard Flight

Welcome to Reykjavik! Upon arrival at Keflavik International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel by the Flybus Shuttle Bus for check-in. Enjoy the day at leisure to discover the city at your own pace. Ingolfur Arnarson, the first settler of Iceland, built his farm on the peninsula where Reykjavík stands today. The town learned its name “Smokey Bay” after columns of steam rose from hot springs in the area and made quite the impression on the first settlers. Reykjavik offers a multitude of restaurants and/or coffee-houses, making dinner a great way to get better acquainted with Iceland's capital.
Overnight in Reykjavik

Travel west along the scenic Hvalfjordur Fjord to discover the magical town of Borgarnes. Embark on an easy hike to the top of Grabrok Volcano Crater, believed to be formed in a fissure eruption around 3400 years ago. At the top, you will discover breathtaking views of Borgarfjordur and the encircling mountain. In the afternoon you will visit a natural history sand seal museum in the fishing village of Hvammstangi. Further north you can stop at the turf church of Vidimyri. From there you will continue along the scenic fjord landscape over several mountain passes to reach Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland. Explore the town of Akureyri as you spend the night.
Overnight in Akureyri

Enjoy the morning at leisure to explore the town of Akureyri, also known as the capital of North Iceland. Admire the panoramic view over the Eyjafjorour Fjord. From April to October, you may take the opportunity to embark on a local whale watching tour. In the afternoon you will travel to Godafoss — the waterfalls of the Gods. Formed by the River Skjalfandafljot, the water here falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters. Next, you will explore Lake Myvatn, referred to as a geological wonderland for its abundance of birdlife. Discover the strange lava formations at Kalfastrond, the pseudo craters at Skutustadir, and the tephra cone Hverfjall. End your afternoon relaxing in the geothermal Myvatn Nature Baths with a fantastic view over the entire area.

Overnight in Myvatn

**There is a possibility of seeing the Northern Lights in the evening from mid-September to mid-April

This morning you will walk through the lava labyrinth in the dark castles of Dimmuborgir. Catch a glimpse of trolls who are said to live there. The unusually shaped rock formations and volcanic caves, reminiscent of an ancient collapsed citadel, were the perfect background for HBO’s fantasy TV Series “Game of Thrones”. In the afternoon, visit the hot spring area of Namaskard, home to bubbling mud pools and steaming solfataras. Head through the uninhabited highlands and moon-like surroundings to East Iceland. From June to August this tour includes a detour to the powerful waterfall Dettifoss.
Overnight in Egilsstaoir

** Please note the itinerary on this specific day can change due to seasonal factors, such as daylight

Today is a day to admire the dramatic fjord landscape and its tiny fishing villages at the end of twisty roads in the East Fjords. En route, you will visit a fascinating mineral and stone collection. In the afternoon you can see Vatnajokull — Europe’s largest glacier which is visible all over Southeast Iceland.
Overnight in Hofn

Begin your day with a stop at Jokulsarlon, a glacial lagoon filled with floating icebergs, creating an ever-changing scenery of vast beauty. Explore the extraordinary site where you may notice seals swimming in arctic waters. From May through September, a boat tour between floating icebergs will be included in the program. Just across the street, you can walk along the so-called Diamond Beach, where large icebergs get stranded. Travel along the southern part of the Vatnajokull Glacier and catch a glimpse of Europe’s second-largest National Park. This park is home to the highest mountains in Iceland, an alpine environment, and the largest glacier in Europe.

In the afternoon you will head on a beautiful drive where many natural wonders await. Head across the Eldhraun Lava Field and cross the sandy desert of the Southern Coast, overlooked by mountainous cliffs, glaciers, and waterfalls. Stroll along the black lava beach of Reynisfjara. In the small village of Skogar, you will find the Skogafoss Waterfall which is 60 meters high and one of the most impressive waterfalls in the country. Continue to the high but narrow Seljalandsfoss waterfall which plunges over the mountain. There is an interesting trail that goes behind the fall – take it if you are prepared to get wet! Further west, you will stop at the Lava Centre to learn about Iceland’s volcanic activity.

Today you will explore the classic route of the Golden Circle. Begin your day at Fridheimar, learn about the Icelandic horse, its special qualities and history, followed by a visit to a geothermal greenhouse. Next, you will visit the Geysir Geothermal Fields. The steams from these bubbling pools and hot springs can be seen from a distance. The original geyser is now dormant but has been replaced by Strokkur “the Churn” which erupts every five- or ten minutes throwing water up to 30mts in the air. Continue your journey to Gullfoss, “The Golden Falls “, which is a double waterfall tumbling 32 meters into the Hvita River. Travel inland to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to Reykjavik, where you will enjoy a short city tour and explore the highlights of the world’s northernmost capital.
